Most people who come to me have seen other clinicians first and still do not have a clear picture of what is wrong. This page sets out what happens at a first appointment.
What happened, what you have already tried, what makes it better and worse, and what you want to get back to. There is time to go through all of it properly.
I look at how your spine behaves under load: the movements and positions that bring your symptoms on, and the ones that settle them. You stay in control the whole time. I tell you what I am going to do before I do it, and we stop when you need to.
A clear account of what is driving the problem and why, in language you can repeat to your partner, your GP or your surgeon. If you have scans, we go through them together.
We agree what to do next, what to avoid for now, and what progress should look like. If your case would benefit from surgical or specialist input, I say so, and I can present it to the spinal multidisciplinary team I sit on in London.
A summary of what we found and what it means, the movements that settle things and the ones to hold off on for now, and the exercises to start straight away. Where it helps, I write to your GP or surgeon. What comes next might be a handful of sessions, a longer programme, or a referral on. You will be told which on the day.
Consultations are arranged by phone or email. You can also send a message through the contact form.
